= Matthews Creek CG to Trail Creek CG Day 3 = The weather prediction showed high temps for today, so I got an early start, planning to stop for siesta at Shadow Creek before pushing on to tonight's destination of Trail Creek Campground. {{../2021-05-31-north-fork-salmon.jpg|North Fork Salmon|width=75%}} {{../2021-05-31-north-fork-salmon2.jpg|North Fork Salmon|width=75%}} I marveled at the views of the North Fork and I made good time to Shadow Creek finding the promised shade, but the creek was not very exiting to me, and my attempts to follow rough old roads toward the Salmon River all ended in poison oak dead ends. My map showed a couple of side roads heading toward the river further along, and recalling yesterday's huge success with the side road, I decided to push on hoping for another Epic Swim Hole Afternoon. {{../2021-05-31-view-from-the-saddle.jpg|View from the Saddle|width=30%}} The side roads on the map all turned out to be private. One had a for sale sign, and I had a fun time imagining buying it and starting a retreat center with Micah, Noah, Anais, and Monica. The steep climbs were separated by a few short descents, and I was feeling fine, looking forward to some stream crossings ahead. But the streams were in culverts far beneath the road surrounded by poison oak and I ran out of water around 11:00 and the temperatures really got hot. Then came an uninterrupted steep section, hard going. {{../2021-05-31-friendly-little-stream.jpg|Friendly Little Stream|width=75%}} Finally at some time after 1:30 the road crossed a tiny creek with an accessible bank. I stumbled down with my filter and soon was re-hydrating in the much appreciated shade. [[../Day-2|previous day]] [[../Day-4|next day]]
